Appraisals
Moore|Tetrault is dedicated to providing the highest level of professional appraisal services. All appraisal reports and methodologies conform to the latest Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) providing clientele with complete and accurate valuations. Mariette specializes in providing objective and well-researched appraisals of Modern and Contemporary paintings and prints. She also appraises American Folk Art. She performs appraisals for insurance, donation, estate tax, resale, collection management and damage and loss purposes.
The appraisal process involves the identification, description and valuation of a work of art. We physically examine, document and photograph each work of art included in the appraisal. We describe each object including a condition report and notations about provenance and exhibition history. When needed, a market analysis is included in our report. This information is presented in a bound physical report for your records, along with digital archives. Our research library and access to multiple price databases ensure that every item is appropriately described, researched and valued for every client’s appraisal needs.
Brokerage
Moore | Tetrault can best advise you of how to sell a single work of art or a whole collection. In some instances, Mariette can sell work through her private art brokerage firm. With a highly cultivated client list, Mariette effectively reaches a target group of clients for modern and contemporary art. After decades in the art business, she has forged strong relationships with many regional and national auction houses to ensure that collections are sold in the most appropriate market.
Mariette is able to offer advice and estimates on potential auction consignments and guide clients through the auction selling process. Her extensive network of contacts in the art and auction business from coast to coast allow her to help you identify the best and most appropriate sales venue for your property.
Fees
Our appraisal fees are based on an hourly rate. The client is billed for on-site examination, research and report writing, and document preparation. In addition, expenses for printing, photography, research, travel or other items related to performing the appraisal are billed to the client. An estimate of the fee for the appraisal is furnished prior to the start of the appraisal.
A contract detailing the scope and type of appraisal to be performed and the fee for the appraisal is signed by both parties prior to the start of the appraisal. A deposit of 50% of the estimated fee is due at the commencement of the appraisal process.
Fees for the brokerage or purchase of fine art are typically based upon a percentage of the sale price. A contract detailing the services to be performed and fees related thereto is signed by both parties prior to the transaction.
